(San Bernardino, CA – July 8, 2015) The San Bernardino International Airport Authority (SBIAA) has approved a lease agreement with Unical Aviation Inc. (Unical) which expands the company’s presence at the SBD International Airport. The lease includes over 190,000 square feet of hangar, shop, and office space with an initial lease term of five (5) years and an exclusive right to negotiate an additional term. The lease includes significant improvements to the large hangar facility including re-painting the hangar in and out, installing a tail door and nose dock, and the installation of modern, efficient lighting.
According to Han Tan, President of Unical Aviation, Inc., SBD is an ideal location for Unical to continue to grow its business. “We selected the San Bernardino International Airport for its proximity to our Los Angeles area headquarters and its convenience to the global aviation community,” says Mr. Tan. David Graham, General Manager of Unical Technical Services, Inc., affiliate company to Unical Aviation and the SBD facility-based MRO, adds “The first-class facilities and efficiencies developing at SBD offer our core customers (airline and cargo) un-rivaled value through our experienced workforce and our in-house supply chain. We anticipate employing up to 50 people during the first year of operation, with plans to hire significantly more as projects begin to line up.”
In addition to the new hangar lease, Unical plans to begin operating from its newly completed 7-acre site located on the Airport. The newly renovated site includes over $3M in infrastructure improvements consisting of a concrete demolition pad, asphalt aircraft parking area, full perimeter fencing and a state-of-the-art office building.
Mark Gibbs, Deputy Director of Aviation at SBD International Airport added, “With double-digit growth in aircraft activity taking place, word is quickly spreading of the opportunities available at SBD, and (aviation) businesses want to be a part of that success. We believe that Unical has the right people, expertise, and efficiencies to provide trusted maintenance services that aircraft owners and operators can rely upon.”
